New Life

mother holding baby
Dear God: I watched the birth of my daughter today. At three minutes after one, her tiny head emerged . . . and then I saw that face. I hope you know it was reverent and holy when I gasped: “Oh my God!” That face had a mouth, a nose, and tiny scrunched-up eyes. In nine short months, You somehow fashioned this miracle of life, this child whom I will love and protect and cherish and die for. She’s perfect, and she is all from You.

Father, You’ve not only given me this beautiful treasure, this little girl, but You’ve shown me proof positive that You are her Creator and mine. I held that intricate bundle of new life this afternoon, and I knew in my heart that evolution could never have done this. Thank You, thank You, thank You. I could say that over and over for the next decade and it wouldn’t come close.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

P.S. I was so giddy driving home from the hospital that I accidentally ran through a stop sign. Thanks for protecting me, God.
